Economics in Action summarizes the insights of economics (microeconomics, development economics, and institutional economics) for development practitioners who work in governmental and non-governmental organizations and civil society activists who do not have formal training in economics. It provides a reasonable understanding of microeconomics, some knowledge of the role of the macroeconomic environment, and the basic insights from the specialized area called development economics. It has chapters on poverty, inequality, social and gender discrimination, environmental impact, written in a manner readable//understandable by development practitioners. At one level, this book is a modest attempt to contribute economic knowledge to participants of public debates who do not have a background in economics. At another level, this book is useful for `micro-action’. It is written in a manner so that development practitioners without any training in economics can understand. It also carries tips for using economics in development practice//interventions. The text is clear, well-written and does a good job explaining the basic economics concepts.
