图书简介
Getting data into shape so that the modelling can begin is, as all practitioners know, a time-consuming and difficult process. This book goes through the entire process starting from what data looks like and what it should look like, covering all the necessary steps to get ready for the actual modelling. This book addresses what data is and how to manipulate it; acquiring data (web scraping, reading databases, fixed-width, XML), topics in data handling (text/regular expressions, big data, parallel processing; merging, matching, checking for duplicates), and record-keeping (audit trails, getting data back out of R, etc.). Ultimately this book provides all the techniques necessary to acquire, clean and maintain data within R. This book is not planned as a course text, however, portions of the material covered (e.g. web scraping) are incorporated in the authors Masters in Operations Research elective Data Mining course.
