图书简介
Extant literature documents the role of effective governance in mitigating bank risk-taking and limiting managerial opportunism. The banking industry forms a necessary pillar for global economic and financial stability, given their intermediation and financing roles, which are constantly under heightened regulatory and market scrutiny. The complexity and diversity of banking financial instruments and transactions leads to substantial information asymmetries. Moreover, there is a lack of conclusive evidence on the role of bank type (i.e., Islamic versus conventional banks) on corporate governance-earnings management nexus, as well as the implications of the Covid-pandemic on alternative banking systems. The book contains conceptual, empirical, and policy papers, using quantitative and qualitative methods alike. It provides the readers — including investors, managers, and policymakers — with new insights, renewed results, recent findings, and future perspectives on the impacts of effective governance mechanisms on banking stability, business models, earnings quality, stock market valuations, firm behaviors, investments strategies, and various macroeconomic shocks.Banking Resilience is intended to focus on (but is not limited to) the following themes around transformations both during and post-COVID-19 crisis: Alternative governance mechanisms, attributes, and characteristics for the board of directors, audit committee, and CEOs; diversity and inclusivity; gender and equality Earnings management, managerial opportunism, conservatism, and financial reporting quality; bank risk and financial performance; board diversity; gender diversity Digital innovation and Big data; FinTech; new business models and digital applications in banking; corporate’s digital transformations; investment strategies Political events and connections: political ties, corruption, resource dependency, bailout; new practices of financial institutions; government-bank relationships; high-frequency market behaviorKey FeaturesThis is the first book on the topic of international banking resilience which collectively addresses several contemporary issues across the industry, recognizing alternative banking models (i.e., Islamic vs. conventional), and introducing implications from CSR, governance, political stability, alongside accounting and earnings managementThe book introduces new and recent debates as well as insights surrounding Financial Technology (FinTech) and digital innovation alongside governanceThe book brings together international scholars, practitioners and industry leaders as well as policy makers who contributed with novel research studies and presented key debates related to the global banking industryIt offers a careful look from firm-level, country-level, country governance, policy-related perceptions in addition to highlighting important policy-related, market-based, and finance-based implications regarding the importance of banking resilience during episodes of financial distressIt provides updated evidence and recent insights required to rethink the global banking model and the dominant international standardsIt is a timely and strategic collection of theoretical, empirical, and policy contributions from renowned international scholarsIt offers evidence-based and new perspectives on common/potential responses, recommendations, and measures with applied case studies that target a wide range of stakeholders engaged with the banking sector (e.g., international regulators, practitioners, institutional investors, auditors, etc.)It addresses any topic related to banking resilience in specific relation to CSR, governance, political shocks, FinTech and innovation.
