Combining the study of conversation analysis (CA) with storytelling in multilingual contexts, this volume examines how nonnative speakers converse and manage various aspects of storytelling, and how they accomplish a wide range of tasks through storytelling in classroom and everyday settings. Showcasing empirical analyses from 10 different languages and backgrounds, chapter authors demonstrate how multilingual speakers rely on storytelling in student-teacher interactions, and how they exploit storytelling as a resource in order to learn and build relationships with peers and teachers. As the first book-length resource devoted exclusively to storytelling in multilingual contexts, the volume extends the literature on multilingual storytelling as well as on the nature of second language (L2) interactional competence.
