图书简介
This book examines the legal aspects of Algorithmic Decision Making. Machine learning and associated technologies have progressed significantly over the last decade, profoundly transforming our economy, our social relations, and our information retrieval practices. Now, these new technologies, with both their promise and their dangers, are being transferred into public administration, policing, public healthcare, and governance institutions in the form of Algorithmic Decision Making (ADM). ADM is challenging traditional administrative and governance practices by introducing an untested way of producing decisions that have the ability to affect the rights of individual citizens and exacerbate existing inequalities. While the ethical issues make their way through academia and popular culture, there is a strong need for swift regulatory responses to address how ADM is understood legally, and what tools need to be developed. This book addresses the scope of ADM, its impact, and the full range of possible responses to it. It is intended as a primer, a toolkit, and a call – aimed at law students, concerned citizens, academics, and legal practitioners – to find a new route to address the challenges surrounding ADM – now, and in the years to come.
