We propose to create a handbook of psycholinguistics, which will offer readers a guide to state-of-the-art research in psycholinguistics. Our goal is to provide readers with current understanding of major areas of linguistic performance, which we believe will be the subjects of active research in the coming period. For each area we will provide first an overview, which will describe the major theoretical approaches to the relevant phenomena, followed by reports of research in that area. Following an introduction by the editors, the handbook will be organized into three Parts, corresponding to the major areas of psycholinguistics: production, comprehension, and acquisition. Themes that we want to interleave into chapters are: research with bilingual and other selected populations, neurolinguistic investigations of various phenomena. While there are a few chapters exclusively devoted to these themes, we will ask authors to include research in these areas in their chapters, where relevant. We intend to recruit as contributors active researchers in the relevant areas of psycholinguistics. To the extent possible, our goal is to create a cohesive volume in which related chapters divide relevant information, with enough overlap to provide a connection between them. To this end, we will ask authors to read and comment on drafts of related chapters.
